Surgent Studios, the creator of Tales of Kenzera: Zau, is partnering with Pocketpair Publishing, the newly formed publishing wing of Pocketpair (Palworld, Craftopia), to create the horror game, which is scheduled for a 2025 release.
Sergeant continues discussions with potential partners around Project Uso (revealed in October 2024) and other projects set in the Tales of Kenzera universe. But this game is something recent for the studio, which was began by actor Abubakar Salim.
The firms say this exciting recent game, developed by Surgent Studios, won’t be set in the Tales of Kenzera universe.
Abubakar Salim, CEO of Surgent Studios, said in a statement: “Both Surgent and Pocketpair are well-versed in taking risks. We noticed a pattern in the entertainment industry, and Pocketpair gave us the opportunity to create a horror game about it. It’ll be short and weird, and we think players will likely be interested in what we have to say.”
He said the company is still in serious talks about further projects set in the Tales of Kenzera universe, but it can be a standalone piece, “a milestone between where we came from and where we’re going.”
John Buckley, director of Pocketpair Publishing, said in a statement: “As the gaming industry continues to evolve, more and more games are struggling to obtain financing or the green light. We think it’s a real shame because there are so many amazing creators and ideas that just need a little help to grow to be amazing games.”
He said Pocketpair was “immediately fascinated by Abubakar’s creative vision for a horror film that explores a subject he is uniquely qualified to explore. Pocketpair Publishing’s ultimate goal is to find creators with a true passion for games and empower them to create fun, recent experiences for gamers around the world.
The game is scheduled to be released later this yr.
