Time is every part in technology. This applies to the same for the Prime Minister of Products and rounds of obtaining funds, as in the case of regulation.

The coalition reflects the diversity of the digital ecosystem and introduces perspectives often overshadowed by high technological dominance. The initiative has been softly developed for months.
Many of us have experienced first hand how the framework of politics – often designed to limit the strength of the best signs – can unintentionally involve corporations that operate on a completely different scale.
We have gathered around a common belief: medium -sized platforms should have a clearer vote in shaping the European digital future. MTE was created to supply a “middle voice” in shaping politics, in favor of regulations that reflect the number of recipients, risks and business models in the digital ecosystem.
But in addition to building a coalition, this moment accommodates a much broader lesson for the founders at an early stage: engaging in public matters is now not a matter of scale, it is a matter of meaning.
The idea for the average Europe of technology emerged from common reality. Each of our corporations invested in trust and security, data protection and platform integrity – but we did it in the shade of frames designed primarily for large technology. The regulatory load increased, but dialogue rarely included business models comparable to ours.
Our corporations operate on a large scale, but with slimmer teams and often narrower margins. We are global close by, but the local structure. And we introduce innovations in terms – comparable to content moderation, building a community or monetization of the creator – where it matters.
Brussels – and more and more often the world – needed a more clear look at this middle level. And we realized that no one intends to build this bridge for us. So we did it.
Politics as a strategic lever
In Yubo, we decided to get involved early – long before it was a regulatory requirement. In 2022, we became the first platform that verified 100% of our users. This decision was not only about compliance, it concerned immunity. This helped our product in the future and put us in a reliable participation in political conversations, when the Act on digital services, AI and other EU regulations began to form.
The regulation is now not a further matter, the founders can afford to disregard. It becomes infrastructure up the river – shaping product design, operational models and investors’ expectations. Early commitment is not only cautious; This is a strategic necessity.
EU policy: Global plan
Although MTE is rooted in Europe, many of its members, including Reddit, Patreon and Discord, are based in the United States. This is not accidental. EU regulations are increasingly shaping global technological standards. Regardless of whether it is age, algorithmic transparency or AI risk management, European principles already function a frame prototype as a part of the debate in Washington and beyond.
This signifies that the founders based in the US will properly treat EU policy as an early signal-a distant problem. Drying a place at a table in Brussels may help avoid fires in DC tomorrow.
Practical suggestions for the founders
What does this mean for startup leaders and their investors?
- Treat regulations as infrastructure. Just like you intend to scale the facilities or secure the first SOC 2, plan compatibility and commitment. It’s not only a risk – it’s a road map.
- Get involved early, not only if vital. The worst moment to start out moving in regulatory requirements is that it is already subject to enforcement of law. Understand your exposure areas and move forward.
- Think collectively. Regardless of whether through coalitions, industrial groups or informal working groups, the founders have a greater impact during coordination. MTE began with a conversation and became a structured initiative. You don’t need a political team to start out dialogue.
- Before you would like them, build your popularity with decision -makers. As in the case of investors, trust is built over time. Transparency, consistency and credibility.
Looking to the future
Too long, the conversation regarding technology regulation was formulated as dragging a war between the government and a handful of dominant players. That framing is incomplete. There is a third category – corporations like ours and probably yours – which build ambitious, varied platforms with safety and honesty.
The regulatory decisions made today will determine who is flourishing tomorrow. If you are building something real, it’s time to make sure your voice can be heard.
