OpenMind wants to be an operating system of humanoid robots from Android

Many firms focus on building robots or on equipment components to help them move, Handle objectsOr they interact with the world surrounding them, OpenMind from the Silicon Valley focuses under the hood.

Open -uis It builds a layer of software, OM1, for humanoid robots that acts as an operating system. The company is compared to being an Android for robotics, because its software is open and agnostic hardware.

Professor Stanford Jan Liphardt, founder of OpenMind, told Techcrunch that humanoids and other robots are nearby and are able to perform repetitive tasks for a long time. But now, when humanoids are developed in the case of use cases that require more interaction between people to machine, similar to having a humanoid in your private home, they need a latest operating system that resembles man more.

“Suddenly this world opens, in which machines can interact with people in a way that I have never seen before,” said Liphardt. “We are very believers here that it’s not just about people, but we really think about ourselves as a company that is a cooperation between machines and people.”

OpenMind presented a latest protocol called Fabric on Monday, which allows robots to confirm the identity and provide the context and information with other robots.

Liphardt said that, unlike people, machines can learn almost immediately, which implies that providing them with a higher way to connect to other robots will allow them to train and absorb latest information easier.

Liphardt gave an example of languages and a way in which robots could connect and share data on speaking of different languages, which might help them interact with more people without having to teach any language by man.

“People are sure that they may interact with any other person on earth,” said Liphardt. “People have built many infrastructure around us, which allows us to trust other people, call them, send them to interaction, coordinate and do things together. Of course, the machines will not be different.”

OpenMind was founded in 2024 and is preparing to ship the first fleet of 10 robotic dogs with OM1 drive. Liphardt said he was a great believer in leading technology and iteration of it after the fact.

“We fully expect all people who will host these four times, will come back with a long list of things that they did not like or want, and then depends on us very, very quickly and the improvement of machines,” he said.

The company has recently also collected a funding round value $ 20 million run by Panther Capital with the participation of Ribbit, Coinbase Ventures and Pebbled, including strategic investors and angel investors.

Now the company is focusing on introducing technology into people’s homes and starting product iteration.

“The most important thing for us is to get robots and get feedback,” said Liphardt. “Our goal as a company is to perform as many these tests as possible so that we can quickly identify the most interesting possibilities in which today robots are optimally suited to what people are looking for.”
