Opinions expressed by entrepreneurs’ colleagues are their very own.
I have never been more grateful for being the owner of the company than when I recently met a close friend and a former friend from my corporate times. This man is a definition of reliable. He is hard -working, he at all times treats his work and rarely complains or asks for anything.
He recently suffered serious difficulties and had to temporarily withdraw to focus on his family. Initially, his company was nice and favorable. In the end, nevertheless, he lost his job, which he devoted so much time and energy to.
Corporations are not people …
As his friend I have a broken heart. As the owner of the company, I’m terrified. Although I understand that corporations respond to their shareholders, I try to reconcile with the decision to overlook loyalty and dedication of service for a small sum of money. Learning, how little, he thinks that the company for my friend’s difficulties only confirmed the promise I made when I founded the company and swore that I never brought profits to people.
Shortly after my friend told me his story, one of my team members experienced a traumatic event. Instead of adopting a “corporate” approach, citing politics, discussing FMLA and generally making a more stressful situation, my business partner and I leaned on their support. We explained that their well -being is in the first place. It has never happened that none of us allowed them to leave in a difficult time in their lives because they may not appear and earn for the company. My only thought was help in any way.
… they are fed only by people
The corporate world is famous, but to discover that your years of service count nothing during personal difficulties, it is cruel. I’m sure that if my friend received the flexibility he needed, he would reach ten times when he could return to work, but it never happens because his company didn’t see it that way.
When team members know that they are going to have support at work, especially at the most difficult moments, they are not only motivated; They are inspired. They will freely devote more time and attention and will deal with their work more. In return, loyalty to your people gives birth to loyalty.
“Culture” and “Resources”
The corporate world has so tragically rejected the role of human kindness in cultivating human capital. Many large corporations deal with the indisputable fact that their team members are their most respected resource, but they really mean that they value their team members for generated revenues.
As soon because it is not, they cut ties and find another person who would fill the place. This variety of culture raises reluctance and promotes corruption, because when corporations do not protect their “most valuable assets”, these assets are less willing to protect the company.
True human capital is measured in relation to dollars
My people are my company. Without them I might allow you to down as an entrepreneur. I worked hard to find the right people, train them, cultivate their skills and create an environment that promotes creativity, because when they are completely satisfied, it shines in their work. Although this variety of leadership cannot at all times be the most profitable in the short period, it was a key factor of my company’s long -term success.
So when something unexpected happens, I will likely be there to offer my support. My people know this and I’m sure that they’d start with me if I needed them.
