Ecosia offered “management” Chrome. And this is not a bad idea.

“It’s not absurd, right?” Christian Kroll, General Director of the Berlin Search engine Non-Profit EcoosisHe talks about the unimaginated request of his company to award a 10-year “management” of the Google Chrome browser as an alternative of forcing Google to sell to its competitor.

His idea is definitely absurd, but also clever.

On Thursday, Ecosia announced that she sent a proposal about Chrome to Google and Judge Amit Mehty. It is expected that this month the judge will cure the remedies on his groundbreaking decision that Google has an illegal monopoly in searching and internet advertising.

One of the remedies, which the Department of Justice asked for, would force Google to sell from Chrome. Google did not conform to this (in 2024 he swore to appeal against the original decision). Despite this, competitors are queuing to purchase Chrome. Both OpenAi and embarrassment said they’d buy it; Last week, even an unmistakable money offer of $ 34.5 billion submitted an uncomfortable money offer.

The offer of embarrassment was widely sent as too low (not to say that billions greater than embarrassment have increased so far). “We think that OpenAi would potentially be prepared for payment for this much more”, speculated by the RBC Brad Erickson analyst in the research note.

Ecosia believes that Chrome is on the right track to generate $ 1 trillion in the next decade, and the auction may be valued “in hundreds of billions,” says Kroll.

Therefore, in terms of nominal value, the ecosis to transfer Chrome for free – including control of about 60% of revenues generated by its users – seems absurd.

The proposal guarantees to issue these billions on climate projects, as is the general mission of Ecosia. Established in 2009, the non -profit organization transfers hundreds of thousands a month and has relations with local communities and non -governmental organizations in over 35 countries. In this chromium proposal, it defined projects, including the protection of rainforests, global planting of trees and agro -sealing, prosecution of pollution and investing in green AI technology.

The remaining 40% ($ 400 billion, based on Ecosia, based on these estimates $ 1 trillion) can be paid Google. Google will maintain the ownership of mental property, and may even be the default search engine. After a decade, management may be transferred to a different or otherwise reviewed.

Ecosia, which uses Google to provide her search engine, already has a partnership related to the distribution of revenues with a technological giant. And it already offers its own browser built on the Open Source Chromium engine, which powers Chrome. That is why Kroll believes that the idea for management is not that beyond the line. “We are pleased to order them Chrome,” he says. Ekozja even offers maintenance of employment for Chrome staff.

Despite this, Kroll admits that a greater goal is to encourage the judge to think about alternatives for typical sales or spin options. These options would simply retain Chrome and its billions in Big Tech pockets.

“We have experience in enabling impossible things,” he says. Should he make the judge think: “Who knows what can come out of it?”
