If you have recently hung out in the world of startups, you most likely heard: “AI is coming for our work.” Fear is comprehensible. With every breakthrough in artificial intelligence there is a suspicion that something or someone intends to turn into outdated.
But here is the phrase: if AI is so capable, will you replace it with the general director? Would I replace myself?
Short answer: absolutely not.
Long answer: read on.
The creation of AI tools legitimized the subject of the executive replacement, with 44% Among the directors of C-Suite, who claim that they’ll replace the decision they have already planned to be made on the basis of AI information. Some gave the idea of ”AI General Directors” or fully autonomous decision -making systems. But this concept lacks what leadership exactly is: setting a vision, navigating ambiguity and making decisions about relationships. It’s about trust, equalization and responsibility. Data can lead, but leadership requires more.
This is where AI shines; Not as a deputy, but as a reinforcement. How Marcs Andreats writes in Techno-optimistic manifesto“Intelligent machines increase intelligent people.”
The myth of a total replacement
The current wave of panic AI resembles similar fears related to the industrial revolution, an increase in personal calculations, and even the invention of the calculator. Any essential change in technology threatened that some works are outdated. And in some cases yes. But more often recent tools change the way we work, not only who performs.
AI tools are built to assist us make faster, smarter connections, but the keyword here is help. We are still behind the wheel. This tension between automation and human judgment appears in all places, even in small things. Should AI resolve methods to take coffee? Can it say that I’m a cold person?
In the settings of the company AI does not eliminate the needs of decision -makers. This eliminates our rely on guessing.
LLM hallucinations have once turn into dangerous. Agentic AI can fix it. Now firms receive trustworthy answers in a few seconds. The managers we see are blooming are those that use artificial intelligence to get higher insight into their activities, clients and the dynamics of the team. In a world initiated by data, intelligence uses the right tools to know this at a pace.
New standard
Let’s be honest: many decisions are still made on the basis of intestinal sensations and crushed reports collected at midnight. In this fashion, outdated tools limit success limitations.
But when the bar is raised by appearing like AI, great leaders are not satisfied with old standards. Thanks to Agentic AI, guessing has turn into outdated, and by imprisoning it into our work flows, decisions supported by data were democratized. Those who are satisfied with old standards will probably be left and leave money on the table.
According to the MIT research reportOrganizations that use artificial intelligence to extend their KPIs are 3x more likely that they achieve greater financial advantages compared to those who do not do it. These are not firms replacing people; They equip them.
Who should worry (and who should not)
If your role is 100% routine and repetitive, it could be time for evolution. But if your role involves creativity, cooperation, leadership or building relationships, you are lucky. These are domains in which AI improves and not replace. I’ll not pretend that artificial intelligence can’t be used improperly, perhaps absolutely. But when it is built in thought, and demonstrates access to insights and gives the time ago who need it the most. It may also help us all the smarter.
So would I replace myself?
No, I am unable to say yes. But I might hire the very best team to support me. And today the strongest teams use AI tools to create their best work. As leaders, we must always ask: “What more can I do now when I see a full photo?”
Because the way forward for leadership is not artificial, it is prolonged.
