OpenAI has gained a latest hardware partner.
The AI research lab made the announcement on Monday began cooperation with the semiconductor company Broadcom for 10 gigawatts of custom AI accelerator. These AI accelerator racks shall be deployed in OpenAI and partner data centers from 2026 to 2029.
“By designing its own chips and systems, OpenAI can embed the knowledge gained from developing pioneering models and products directly into hardware, unlocking new levels of capabilities and intelligence,” the company said in a press release.
Although the terms of the deal weren’t disclosed, the Financial Times estimated them could cost OpenAI an estimated $350 to $500 billion.
This is the latest infrastructure transaction for OpenAI in recent weeks.
Last week, OpenAI announced it was buying an additional six gigawatts of chips from AMD in a deal value tens of billions of dollars. In September, Nvidia announced it will invest $100 billion in OpenAI, along with a letter of intent for OpenAI to make use of 10 gigawatts of Nvidia hardware.
In September, OpenAI reportedly signed a historic $300 billion cloud infrastructure deal. No company has confirmed this transaction.
