If you’ve got never raised any money before, every little thing about the process could seem daunting. You will more than likely hear many, many “no”s before you say “yes.” I won’t pretend it may possibly’t be demoralizing and exhausting. Fundraising can create a lot of fear of rejection and fear of failure. Asking for alms may additionally be uncomfortable.
This could also be very true for founders who grew up in economically disadvantaged households. They may have concerns about how they will likely be perceived by government institutions. They may additionally feel that asking for money is degrading or that it reminds them of times of scarcity when parents had to ask for help.
An uncomfortable sense of pride can rear its head. I need to assure you that in the technique of obtaining loans, grants or investments, you are not asking for alms. You give people the opportunity to partner with you in co-creation. You are another person’s clever business decision.
If you imagine that you’ll never be the one that will find a way to do this, I need to assure you you could do it if you utilize my three future Principles of Prosperity.

Establishing a company also means financing it
The mistake people make when approaching fundraising is pondering of it as a weight loss plan or training for a marathon – something they will just power through until the end. However, financing is such an integral a part of the premise – these words differ only by one letter. You must change into someone who pursues funds and revenues with the same energy that you just bring to other elements of the endeavor.
The secret is to incorporate the MAE (Attitude, Action, Energy) framework into your fundraising. That’s what made me a successful fundraiser – the combination of anticipating success, embodying that energy, and taking affirming motion through strong connection and continually putting myself on the market. Then the universe takes over.

This is not about you
Some people are naturally comfortable with the never-ending cycle of fundraising. There are skilled fundraisers who work for foundations and non-governmental organizations, and their whole job is to ask people for money. We can learn a lot from them.
The key distinguishing feature of skilled fundraisers is that they are deeply motivated by what they are raising money for, not themselves. Every day they will ask, ask and ask again because they are deeply convinced that the money they are asking for will likely be useful. You can use the same strategy. You’re not asking for yourself. You’re not asking for this money because you wish to be a wealthy CEO or because you wish to be famous. You are asking for this money to find a way to bring this concept to life. You are asking to serve your customers. You are asking for the ability to employ people in work they find meaningful and fulfilling. You are asking for the opportunity to make changes. And you ask to find a way to return this money with interest. You are the Lorax speaking for the trees. You speak for your Deep Inner Why. You are its ambassador and only you might help it get the oxygen it needs to ignite.

Make friends with your fear
Fear is not bad. Fear is adrenaline that sharpens your focus and puts numbers into your mouth that you just didn’t even know were in your brain. If you asked for money without the slightest fear of ever having the ability to repay it, you could be a cyborg. You are doing a big, brave and beautiful thing that not everyone is able to, and your fear reminds you of it. It tells you that what you do is vital and it’s best to take it seriously.
You may have to tap into that fear or ask the scared part what it needs to feel protected. It’s an emotional process that evokes a lot of emotion in people, and we do not have to pretend it doesn’t. By acknowledging the fullness of our experience, we will bring our whole selves into the room, fear and all.
When the founders I mentor come to me feeling overwhelmed and wondering if they will really achieve their goals, I walk them through a focused process. I have seen how it may possibly transform those feelings of fear and wickedness into something you’ll be able to love about yourself and make you much more of a one that can and will realize the great vision you have for your life.
Sit in a comfortable, quiet place. Even if you are harboring negative feelings, I need you to let those feelings subside for a moment and tune into the feeling you want to to embody. This
it could possibly be any of the 8 C’s – akin to confidence, calm, courage – which are very useful states to tap into.
Then I need you to imagine if this state had a color, what would it not be?
Open each hands in the receiving position on your knees and place the feeling you wish to embody in one of your hands. Use all of your senses: visualize the feeling, hear it, taste it, touch it and smell it. Imagine the color, shape, weight, temperature and the rest interesting about this sense you could conjure up. Be creative and curious. The more fun you’ll be able to have, the higher!
Now I would love you to turn your attention to the other hand and do the same exercise, but with the a part of yourself that you want to to change. Maybe it feels hard and jagged, or sticky and clingy. Maybe it’s hot to the touch. Or so cold it burns.
How old were you when you created this reluctant a part of yourself? Don’t think about it too much, just say the first number that comes to mind.
Now recall a memory from an era when you felt this sense of resistance. What were you asked to do? Have you been offered to change schools, agreed to a divorce you hated, succeeded in a field that was forced upon you?
Talk to a smaller, younger, innocent one that experienced this moment. What has the sense of resistance been wanting for you all along? Really try to talk.
Your answer unlocks each feelings, one in your left hand and one in your right hand, to provide you with latest insights. Now join your hands and thank this part for working tirelessly for you all these years to finally bring you the value that you just hold in your other hand.
When we learn to love all of our parts, we are going to see how many elements of us work together for the greater good.
I leave you with this thought. Your prospectus is called an offering for a reason. You offer the opportunity to cooperate with you. So go from asking to offering and watch the magic unfold.
