Continuation of this week’s OpenAI news: today the company announced that it has updated its signature large language model (LLM) chatbot ChatGPT with the ability to directly import files from external cloud drives Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive.
The feature might be available to paid ChatGPT Plus, Team and Enterprise subscribers and might be available when using the recent GPT-4o base model, which OpenAI debuted on Monday, in addition to older models.
Users can find the recent integration by clicking the small paper clip icon to the left of the tooltip/text bar at the bottom of the default ChatGPT desktop interface.
OpenAI posted an animated video (posted below) showing the workflow of doing this on its blog announcing the update and on its X account.

To use this feature, you’ll need to grant access from your Microsoft OneDrive or Google Drive accounts, but once you’ve done this, you’ll give you the option to select a range of file types, including spreadsheets, presentations, and documents, that you want to import directly into ChatGPT.
OpenAI then updated the ChatGPT interface to allow you to view spreadsheet files specifically in a full-screen view, and with an interactive interface showing any changes you make to them using the underlying AI model in real-time.
Once finished, you also can download a copy of the spreadsheet or document edited by ChatGPT directly from the ChatGPT interface.
As OpenAI writes on its blog: “You can now customize and interact with bar charts, line charts, pie charts, and scatter charts in a conversation. Hover over chart elements, ask additional questions, or select colours. Once you’re ready, download and use it in your presentations or documents.
For privacy-conscious users, OpenAI notes on its blog that “We do not train on data from ChatGPT Team and Enterprise customers, and ChatGPT Plus users can opt out of training via Data Control” (available in the settings menu).
While this is ultimately a feature update, it is quite significant for those that use ChatGPT to work on documents. this could save users time and give them more freedom when using the chatbot.
