TechCrunch keeps readers updated on the Fearless Fund’s legal fight to award business grants to black women. Today, we’re excited to announce that Fearless Fund CEO and Co-Founder, Arian Simone, will be speaking on the Disrupt 2024 Builders Stage for a fireside chat, discussing her organization’s fight for racial equality.
Fearless Fund was sued last August by the American Alliance for Equal Rights, which alleged that the organization racially discriminated against non-white founders because it offered grants to businesses run by black women. In June of this 12 months, an appeals court ruled that the Fearless Fund’s business grant likely violated Section 1981 of the Civil Rights Act of 1866 and barred the grant indefinitely.
The Feeless Fund is one of many organizations struggling to have programs that focus on diversity, equity and inclusion. As a result, the future of many of these initiatives is uncertain. But the fight is not over yet. Join us for a fireside chat about what happens when civil rights enters enterprise capital, only at this 12 months’s Disrupt.
