Blue Rider Announces Apartment Story Premiere on September 26

Blue Rider Interactive today announced the release date for its upcoming RPG adventure Apartment Story. The game can be available on PC via Steam on September 26. The developer also released a trailer showing off more of what the game has to supply — a third-person title that intertwines life simulation elements with mystery.

The player character is Arthur, a video game journalist who is visited in his apartment by two other characters, and at one point it seems that there is a weapon hidden somewhere in the apartment. Players must navigate an increasingly precarious social situation while taking good care of Arthur’s day by day needs: they have to eat, shave, use the bathroom, sleep, shower, and clean the apartment, while the game uses a real-time day and night cycle. There is also the choice to not engage with the story and external characters at all, although otherwise they are going to not engage with the outside world at all.

Apartment Story is one of the first Blue Rider titles to feature a PSX aesthetic. According to the developers, the game may be accomplished in one (real, not in-game) night. Game designer Sean Wenham described the game on the Blue Rider website as follows: “It’s a video game about life now; it’s about the lack of money, how we value our home spaces, and the desire for the stories we were raised with instead of the monotony we find ourselves in.”
