With a family heritage steeped in courage, Dawn Kelly becoming an entrepreneur was almost inevitable.
As founder A place of nutrition, a health food and beverage destination in New York City, Kelly’s small work trip began with big dreams. After an extensive profession in the corporate space, realizing her potential as a business owner took a significant turn during her participation in the program Goldman Sachs 10,000 small businesses program.
With the help of this program and other training courses (including NYC Economic Development Corporation) her eyes were open to her potential. “That’s when I realized I could do it,” she told Shawn Walchef California BBQ Media.
Dawn Kelly was and continues to be inspired by her mother and grandfather. He was a military veteran who settled his family in Jamaica, Queens, after being refused housing elsewhere. Her lineage instilled in her values reminiscent of exertions and the importance of starting early.
“I’m the oldest in the family, so my grandfather always taught me that an injured bird will get worms,” says Dawn. This family legacy continued when Kelly founded The Nourish Spot with her daughter.

Living by the saying that a picture is price a thousand words, Kelly appreciates the visual aspect of Instagram storytelling, using it to document her personal and skilled journey.
“I love taking photos. I’ve always done it. So Instagram has allowed me, both personally and professionally, to document my journey,” explains Kelly.
He uses social media to capture moments, showcase achievements and highlight the positive impact The Nourish Spot has on the local community.
“When I’m not here, there will likely be little doubt about what I have achieved and what has made me blissful, and the advantages our work brings to our community, our Jamaica, the Queens community and beyond.”
