When the hosts of the popular All-In podcast launched their very own brand of tequila at a star-studded party last June, all 750 bottles of the $1,200 drink quickly sold out. However, getting these bottles into customers’ hands proved tougher than expected.
Long-awaited bottles of Besties All-In tequila began shipping last week to those that ordered them, ending a nearly five-month wait, Jason Calacanis, one of the podcast’s hosts, told TechCrunch.
Calacanis said the obstacle was the unusual bottle: “It took a little longer than expected to create the handmade bottles, but the bottles started shipping last week!” The bottle was designed as a collector’s item and looks like a stack of poker chips illuminated from below. It pays homage to poker, one other of the podcast hosts’ favorite pastimes, apart from drinking tequila.
Buyers were then told they might expect delivery by the end of the summer. But summer got here and went. Not only did the customers give away $1,200, but additionally they paid taxes and other fees.
A TechCrunch reader told us that delivery has been repeatedly delayed: pushed to October, then to November, and most recently one person was told that delivery would occur “after November,” in keeping with a letter obtained by TechCrunch from the distributor Flaviarspirits market serving distribution.
Both product official website and Flaviar’s announcements reflected the changing schedule – the site originally promised late-summer delivery, but now says deliveries will “begin in November.” Flaviar’s letter indicated that deliveries were made in batches.
While it’s still unclear how long it would take for the distributor to meet all orders, we at least know that shipments have began and what the hurdles have been. With any luck, VC fans, brothers and “best friends” of the All-In hosts might be sipping expensive, handcrafted spirits this upcoming holiday season.
