Jeff Bezos he’ll reportedly be co-CEO of a latest artificial intelligence startup, Project Prometheusfocusing on the application of technology to physical tasks, as seen in the article in New York Times citing anonymous sources.
Project Prometheus is reportedly starting with $6.2 billion in funding, partly from Bezos. The next co-director of the startup is Vik Bajajphysicist and chemist who most recently served as CEO and co-founder of a biotechnology startup Foresite Laboratories.
Bajaj is also known for its work on Google‘S X, the company’s laboratory dealing with the implementation of moonshot projects. Additionally, he was a co-founder Alphabet precision health technology startup Indeed.
Bezos, who has stepped down from his longtime role Amazon CEO in 2021, has long been actively involved in financing and scaling startups. His most famous enterprise capital investment vehicle, Bezos expeditionsparticipated in at least 115 known financing rounds since mid-2000, in keeping with Crunchbase data.
The Amazon founder is also known for his space technology ambitions, primarily through spaceflight startups Blue origin. The company says it has sent 80 people into space so far.
Meanwhile, Project Prometheus will reportedly focus on artificial intelligence that can help with engineering and manufacturing in many fields, including computers, aerospace and automotive, in keeping with the article. His work has the potential to supply technology that Blue Origin can use to further its goals of expanding human spaceflight.
According to the article, the company has already employed a team of nearly 100 employees, including researchers associated with the company OpenAI, MetaAI efforts and other distinguished AI labs.
