Founded in Canada in 2014 on the back of his father’s Quiznos franchise, 7 changes was born out of Boesch’s desire to create easy solutions to the complex challenges of managing a team. The company provides an employee scheduling, payroll, and retention application designed to extend restaurant efficiency.

Today, greater than 50,000 restaurants use 7shifts to save lots of time, reduce errors, and control labor costs. More than a million people—about one in 15 restaurant staff in the country—use the app.

Boesch emphasizes the importance of employee satisfaction and engagement as key indicators of success in restaurants.

“As we grew and focused, we realized that a lot of it had to do with employee experience, which led us to the whole concept of asking for feedback on change,” Boesch explained to the host Shawn Walchef With Media about grilling in Cali at the National Restaurant Association Show 2024 in Chicago.

By collecting real-time feedback, 7shifts helps operators discover and resolve issues before they result in employee turnover. It goals to shut the gap and illuminate blind spots by providing insights that allow operators to reply proactively.

“Ninety percent of restaurant operators don’t conduct an exit interview,” Boesch added. “That presented a huge opportunity to provide insights to restaurant operators early and in real time so they can respond.”

Technology helps restaurants run higher

Given the abundance of technology available, the 7shifts founder believes there has never been a higher time to be a restaurant operator.

“There are a ton of amazing products out there,” he says, urging aspiring operators to explore and select the best tools for their needs. “Look at what integration means in those worlds, because the level and depth of integration can mean different things to your experience.”

Under Boesch’s leadership, 7shifts is committed to raising the bar on what restaurant teams can achieve together, driving innovation in the industry and helping operators focus on what they do best – running their restaurants successfully.

As 7shifts continues to grow, the company continues to strive to simplify the lives of restaurant operators through modern products and services. Boesch is particularly excited about the recent tip and payroll products.

“We’ve been working really hard on our tip product and our payroll product,” he says. The goal is to make those products so intuitive that operators can implement them themselves. “What we’re saying here is that we believe operators can do more with their time if we give them more time.”
