Lightricks brings video-to-video AI features to Videoleap

Lightricks, the company behind Facetune, Popular Pays and Photoleap, has now added AI-powered generative video-to-video capabilities to its popular products Video skip app. They have named this long-awaited update “AI Effects.”

Simply put, video-to-video AI is the ability to take a video and turn it into a completely latest video based on the user’s wishes. Tooltips and style presets are often used to help the user achieve what they envision.

The power of this technology is still in its infancy, which is reflected in the Lighttricks offering, where you’ll be able to only create videos up to 10 seconds long for free, and the performance of generative AI is not yet on par with the visual effects created by Hollywood studios. Right now, some of the limitations come from using a backend server to render such complex traffic.

However, with the rapid technological advances in the visual AI space over the past 12 months, longer, higher quality videos will likely grow to be the industry norm sooner or later. Many artificial intelligence tools that are widely used today were initially considered tricks, reminiscent of text-to-image.

Lightricks previously introduced generative AI in its other flagship app, Photoleap, and has since seen over 100,000 adoptions. installations per week. Lightricks even partnered with Paramount Studios on the revolutionary Photoleap feature that empowered fans to create Avatars generated by artificial intelligence as characters With Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

Zeev Farbman, CEO and co-founder of Lightricks, believes that “with video-to-video AI capabilities, almost anyone will soon be able to create Hollywood-level video productions on their phone,” he said in a press release.

There has been a rush over the past few months, with several startups and established players releasing generative AI features that enable video-to-video processing with various degrees of usability. The Runway app launched early in April and enabled video-to-video generative AI in an easy-to-use way. However, it allows users to upload videos that are a few seconds at most, and these short clips take over a minute to render.

There were two potentially differentiating features to the Lightricks announcement. The first is the ability to edit AI videos on your device with rendering capabilities in just 30 seconds, which is much faster than other similar apps. The second is mobile “AI Infinite Zoom”, through which a user can upload a photo and use AI to expand the boundaries of the image, turning it into an animation loop.

Videoleap also advantages from being already a favorite video editor for many creators, naturally becoming the first sophisticated video-to-video conversion tool they’ll use. This means AI Effects is also available in templates, speeding up users’ creative process by remixing other people’s styles.

As a part of the broader Lightricks ecosystem, the UI feels familiar and there is a great opportunity for cross-pollination of AI features between applications.

While Lightricks appears to have made a strong inroad into the market with AI Effects, the real challenge is to come and see if the company can update as regularly as planned to stay ahead of the competition.
