What was your each day work or basic career when you began absolute goods?
Absolute goods I began as a lateral hustle and bustle (*150*) my early entrepreneurial days. When I used to be 24, I gave up my work at a concert to work for myself and finally founded a music management company with friends. We managed several great artists in the world of Vans Warped Tour who needed higher solutions of goods. Absolute Merch was born out of necessity, originally to help in using the teams we have already managed. During the 12 months, we realized that the lateral hustle and bustle we created was actually our important business and went to all-in building and developing it.

What were some of the first steps you took to break away from the company?
From the first day: without investors, no real resources. We literally stole Wi-Fi from Fearless Records and worked from the wardrobe in the corridor. It was pure hustle: throwing creative ideas on merch to the bands with whom we already had relations and trying to persuade them to start saving E -commerce. When the money began to come, we invested again for our own equipment, we modernized our space and we scaled. We focused on ensuring the very best creative work to stand out early.

Are there any free or paid resources that were particularly helpful when running and running a business?
When I began absolute goods with my co -founder, Noah Russell, I used to be obsessed with the podcast As I built it Author: Guy Raz – Everything I could get. Hearing the history of other founders was extremely motivating and helped me give the inspiration that I needed to proceed to push through the early days.

If you might come back and change one process or approach to save time, energy or headaches, what wouldn’t it be?
The biggest advice that I might give to anyone who founded the company is to make sure that accounting is chosen from the first day. We lost every thing and didn’t set great systems or keep great records early. Before the company became large enough for proper accounting to change into obligatory, we had to start from scratch and change into disordered, causing many unnecessary internal problems. Looking back, from the very starting a solid accounting would save us a lot of stress.

What is particularly difficult or surprising in this industry, for which newcomers must be prepared?
When every thing goes well, you normally assume that nothing bad won’t ever occur. Unfortunately, this is not how it really works. You have to be prepared for problems with employees, lawsuits, deterioration of the economic situation – all atypical things related to the development of the company. I regret that I have not learned “hope for the best, but plan the worst”. This way of considering would save me a few difficult lessons, but ultimately the only way to learn is to go through it.

Do you remember a specific case when something went very mistaken? How did you deal with it?
During Covid, our company was heavily healed to E -commerce as the concert tours were closed, and our revenues increased rapidly. Trying to sustain with demand, we began to throw money and resources on problems, not understanding our margins, mainly due to the lack of adequate accounting, which I discussed earlier. We lost a lot of money without realizing it. The way we went through it was the same as we began: grit, incidence and cutting noise. Many problems arose when my co -founder and I gave too many key responsibilities to the recent managers. We have learned the proven fact that no one will care about our activities as we do, so we took control, based on our instincts and corrected courses. This difficult 12 months in 2021 led to the three best years we have ever had.

How long did the coherent monthly revenues take and what is the height now?
It was a long grind. People talk about “snowball effect” and it’s true: you’re employed hard for a very long time, seeing much, and even when you begin to come, you may still reinvest. We have not earned any money for some time – every thing returned to the company. In the end, the income increased to a point where we could pay and build a real infrastructure, and we have earned life for the last 12 years. Since the start of the Absolute Merch has generated over $ 150 million of revenues. We have stuck out of the catchy hustle and bustle into a full -size commodity company, which was trusted by some of the most influential tourist artists in the world. But we remained slim and grounded. Even now, the company is price $ 5 million, and it’s high quality for me. The most significant thing is that we have built something real, balanced and significant.

How much time do you spend work on your organization? What does a typical day or week appear to be for you?
This answer has modified a lot over the years, but the only thing that has not modified – and something that every entrepreneur must understand – is that when you are the owner of the company, Every minute of waking up You work from your life. This does not necessarily mean sitting in front of the computer making spreadsheets or sales connections, but when you are responsible for every thing that happens, you are all the time guarding, all the time at conversation, you mostly think about tomorrow’s problems. You are never fully checked.

When we began, I used to be probably in the office from 60 to 70 hours a week. During the rough patches I worked 80 hours a week, I perceived legally and logged in to 1am, sending e -Mail. Now, when we built a strong team and solid infrastructure, my each day is closer to 9 to 5 in terms of energetic hours, but from the moment I get up, when I go to sleep, my mind is still in the company. This is only part of the contract when you’re taking care of what you built.

What do you want best about running this business?
I really like people I can work with, from my amazing internal band to some of my favorite artists and their managers, many of whom have change into close friends. Creative cooperation with people I respect and I like to be nearby is something that I never take for granted.

What is your best, useful business advice?
If we talk about a party, the first step is: take motion. So many people I have met who want to start a company are simply afraid to start. My partner and I say all the time that what made us succeed is that we were too silly to cope. We didn’t think about it, we just dived in Headfirst. No handrail. No plan to create backups. We just continued, even when Logic said we must always stop.

The truth is that no one will teach you the way to be an entrepreneur. You learn through performance. You will spoil. You make bad decisions. But that is how I’ll develop. My advice: Just start. Immerse yourself inside. Don’t look for yourself. The only way to solve difficult problems is to face them, deteriorate and then improve.
