Michael Seibel announced Late Wednesday on X, that after greater than 12 years in the famous Y Combinator accelerator, he goes to the role of “Emeritus Partner”.
Garry Tan, general director of Y Combinator, shared the message individually in the company Blog postemphasizing the long history of Seibel with a outfit. Seibel joined YC for the first time as a founder, going twice passing the program – once with the Justin.television streaming startup, and later with the Socialcam application. Later, Seibel was a group partner, managing director and general director of YC Accelerator.
In particular, Seibel has recently returned to the less operational role of the group’s partner. In a post on the YC blog, he wrote last yr that he was able to “convey my leadership duties” and the transition became “effective” after the end of the Winter Party of the Accelerator Startups.
A dozen or so years is a long run for everyone, but Seibel’s departure could have been launched as early as 2022, when Tan was appointed president and general director. Movement apparently surprised some YC employees – partly because Tan led separate The Venture fund at that point outside YC, but also because they considered Seibel to be the next role.

In the meantime, he shared in his X that after he took care of the summer to loosen up, he willingly “helps the government better serve his citizens.” He added: “The government was a passion for my youth and I am excited about restarting.” Seibel signed, thanking the founders of Y Combinator Paul Graham and Jessica Livingston for “changing my life.”
The message appears about two weeks before the Spring Party of the Founders of YC, starting its own trip around the service; The program will last from April to June.
