Openai is reportedly in conversations about the purchase of Windsurf for USD 3 billion, and the messages are expected this week

Windsurf, a producer of the popular AI coding assistant, is in conversations that might be taken over by OpenAI for around $ 3 billion, Bloomberg Reported.

If the contract takes place, she would put OpenAI in direct competitions with many other AI coding assistants, including Aksphepe, a cursor producer that OpenAI supported from the OPENAI startup fund.

The takeover may threaten the credibility of the OPENAI startup fund, taking into account that this is one of the cursor’s largest investors, said a person familiar with the Cursor table. It is not clear whether Opennai turned to the cursor for the takeover.

In addition to what the sources have informed Bloomberg, there are some suggestions that something is happening between two corporations. A few days ago, Windsurf users received the e -mail message that says that on account of the announcement this week they have the ability to dam access to a coding editor for 10 USD monthly.

And the Openai Kevin Weil product director also published Yesterday video praising Windsurf’s possibilities.

Windsurf, a company previously often known as Codeium, talked about gathering fresh funds with a valuation value $ 2.85 billion run by Kleiner Perkins, said TechCrunch in February. According to our reporting, the company has achieved about $ 40 million of annual repetitive revenues (ARR). This revenue rate is much lower than the cursor, which apparently earns $ 200 million on the ARR basis. Bloomberg reports last month the cursor about raising capital with a valuation of about $ 10 billion.

Since its foundation in 2021 by Varuna Mohan and his childhood friend and the second degree MIT, Douglas Chen, Windsuf collected $ 243 million from investors, including Greenoaks Capital and General Catalyst, based on Pitchbook data.
