Tabnin was chosen as the “Best Presentation” during the Innovation Showcase at VentureBeat’s Transform conference last week.

The Tel Aviv-based company offers an AI-powered coding assistant that goals to hurry up and simplify software development. It works as a pair programming tool that integrates directly with the company’s integrated development environment (IDE), providing intelligent code suggestions and completions tailored to each company’s context.

During Showcase, Tabnine Ecosystem VP Brandon Jung announced the release of “Coaching.” This is the ability to constrain Tabnine output to satisfy clear corporate standards and guidelines inside the IDE. It also offers the ability to catch pull request deviations and mechanically adjust.

Jung said during his presentation that the company often gets questions about two principal issues: trust and control. “Coaching” helps solve the latter.

“Of course we’ll put some great rules into it as defaults, but it’s programmable,” Jung said during his presentation. “It’s something that any customer can put into any roles that they need. Then we have a repository. They may have specific rules that they want to be sure of and enforce, and those are critical areas for adoption, especially in companies that have high-security code or have very consistent code that they have to re-deliver, banks, insurance companies, chip manufacturers with key that are looking at that as a requirement.”

The company offers its own AI models and hosts other models on which the Tabnine app can run.

The company launched a new edition of its time-saving application programming interface in June 2022. In February announced assistant updates that include the integration of augmented grab generation (RAG) techniques that allow the platform to offer refined suggestions. In April, the company announced a capability that lets users select the underlying large language model (LLM) that powers its chat tool for software developers, Tabnine Chat. Engineering teams can now select from a catalog of models to make use of the one that most accurately fits their situation, and they’ll switch between them at will.

Tabnine has raised $57.1 million so far, of which $25 million got here from Series B financing round in November 2023. The company has 85 employees. Competitors include Microsoft’s GitHub Copilot, Google Gemini Code Assist, and Coedium.

Jung said after winning at the show that he was “excited because it’s validation that the story that we’re sharing, that customers love, is aligned with the VC view as the next investment horizon.” He added that it confirms that “our value proposition is differentiated and scalability is key to competing with the largest technology company in the world, Microsoft.”

The Innovation Showcase judging panel included investors Lisa Yu, partner at 99VC; Jeremiah Owyang, general partner at Blitzscaling Ventures; Eugenio Gonzalez, partner at Plug and Play Ventures; and Tim Tully, partner at Menlo Ventures.
