Apple CEO Tim Cook says artificial intelligence is undoubtedly a turning point in technology.
In interview With Wire published on Wednesday, Cook discussed the impact of artificial intelligence on Apple and said that at some point it will improve Apple’s entire offering by changing the way users interact with phones, tablets and laptops.
“Over time, AI will reinvent and deliver a new era and a new chapter for iPhone, iPad, Mac and all of our products,” Cook said. “Because I think it changes the way you interact with the product.”
Cook he stated that he personally uses Apple Intelligence to summarize emails. He explained that Apple is an email company, so it receives a large volume of messages from all directions, including employees and customers. Cook says Apple Intelligence summarizes and prioritizes his emails so he knows what to read first.
Siri also received an AI upgrade in October when Apple released iOS 18.1, which allows Siri to grasp more context, answer support questions, and switch between text and voice commands using AI. There have been reports that Apple is preparing to release a latest, improved version of Siri powered by artificial intelligence in the coming months.
In the interview, Cook calls himself a Siri “power user” and claims to be one of them 1.5 billion requests that Siri receives per day. He explained that due to artificial intelligence, more Apple users will use Siri and establish a personal connection with the voice assistant.
“I already have a personal connection with Siri, but I think more people will because Siri will become more personally relevant and will be able to take tasks off your shoulders that you don’t need to do,” Cook said.
While AI is expensive, costing greater than $100 million to coach, having AI-enhanced features in Apple products doesn’t suggest you have to pay extra for them, Cook says. He notes that there has “never” been talk about charging for AI services, reminiscent of artificial intelligence that may create emails or text messages from iPhone, iPad and Mac. Instead, Apple sees AI as the core experience of using its products.
And when it involves originality, Cook says using AI to make your writing sound more polished and friendly still means the writing is yours.
“It still comes from you,” he said.
