Why “doing less” is the key to scaling a small company in the next 6 months

(*6*) expressed by entrepreneurs’ colleagues are their very own.

I travel a lot to my work and although there are many disadvantages to be on the road, there is one significant profit: it gives me time to think.

When you travel – especially when you are solo, as often – you have a lot of time to think. In Uber. In safety. Passing through the airport. I’m waiting for your flight. Being in flight. Doing the reverse in the destination. Some people listen to music or podcasts during this downtime, and it happens that I do the same. But I think most of the time. What are my thoughts?

Just such as you, if you are the owner of the company. I think that it is happening in my life and my company. A brand new product we are working on. The sales campaign I would like to try. Difficult customer situation. Difficult worker. Should Phillies mention Alec Bohm? Why the guy sitting next to me wears sandals. Many thoughts go through my little, silly, pathetic mind. But that is wonderful. Thinking is good. And when I come back from travel, I normally have recent ideas, different approaches to the problem – good thoughts that needs to be divided.

When I travel, I do not talk on the phone as much as when I’m in the office. I also do not send so many e -Maili or I do not participate in so many meetings. I do less, but I actually do more.

The next day I perform tasks in my office. I review contracts. I’m working on a proposal. I’m on the zoom. I’m sending a message to the worker. I call the contractor. I’m applying for a client meeting. I do a lot. But do I do the right things? Do I actually contribute to the long -term profitability and development of my company? Am I acting or just reacting? I think you know the answer.

As business owners, all of us spend too much time, doing too many insignificant things as an alternative of what is really essential: pondering. Thinking about the future. Thinking about how to encourage our customers, our products higher, our happier employees. We should think about the economy, regulations and recent regulations that may affect our activities and the way we are able to deal with them. We should think about our money flows, our investments and how to increase the value of our corporations. But what about all the on a regular basis trifles we deal with? I have to make them less. So I achieve more.

Here are some actions that I’ll take this 12 months to have the opportunity to achieve more, doing less.

Commission

I mustn’t do my very own payroll, create quotes, examine problems or send mass e -maile. This 12 months I’ll order these tasks. I can pay accountants, sellers and external marketers to do it for me. This will save me for many hours. And yes, it is going to cost, but the cost and advantages factor will likely be much higher.

Force yourself to leave

I’ll leave a desk, play squash or ride a bike in the middle of the day, visit more customers and eat lunch with people with whom I should eat lunch years ago. The more I have, the more I leave my business to run my talented people, and the more time I have to think about business and how to scale it.

Join the CEO group

There are many great organizations throughout the country that gather local groups of general directors and business owners that usually meet to discuss their corporations. They discuss their problems, share financial information, offer suggestions and ask for help. If I devoted time to being with them and listen to what they have to say, I’d use and develop. I may even have a few thoughts to help them.

Follow the principle of 80/20

It’s amazing for me how much time I spend on customers who generate such a small profit. Like many, I just want to please people. I realize that every customer is essential and I would like the customer to pay me $ 100, so that he can be as satisfied as the customer pays me $ 10,000. But come on, does it really make sense? This 12 months, I’ll spend less time with lapping over small, marginally profitable accounts and focus on customers who are really the most useful for my company. I do not ignore smaller customers. But I’ll have a limit how much time I’ll spend on them. I’ll do the same with our products and services. Do we want so much? Can we do more with fewer offers?

Finally, this 12 months, more technology is a fee

I’ll look at every task that I do during the day – answering e -Mile, following the possibilities, sending mass messages, participating in meetings, browsing invoices and writing proposals – and ask yourself how you’ll be able to do it faster thanks to technology. My company uses the excellent CRM application (customer relationship management), which has many work flow and automation functions that begin to use artificial intelligence, all designed to do more things in a shorter time. I’ll often talk to this supplier and ask how I can do things faster and higher with their software.

2025 is when I do less. Less hard -working work. Less microly. Less detailed tasks. This is what my smartest customers do: they provide time to think. They reach more, doing less.
