Too often, entrepreneurs and business leaders get up to find themselves hampered by outdated technology that is limiting their organization’s growth. The list of challenges seems limitless: duplication due to short-lived workarounds, siled data, high operational costs, difficulty in scaling, and security vulnerabilities resulting from patching vulnerabilities in different systems. There is a growing awareness that the solution is to host computer services and data remotely in the cloud, fairly than maintaining systems locally. However, organizations in the healthcare, manufacturing, education and government sectorin particular, their adoption has been slow.
In the public sector, residents are experiencing rising costs as public organizations grapple with cybersecurity threats and prepare for future issues equivalent to climate change instability. By 2016, cloud use had increased from 38% to 78% of public services, with annual savings of over £725 million ($908 million). Over 90% of cloud solution providers are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Germany and France have also launched the GAIA-X project to create a secure European cloud infrastructure, and a marketplace connecting public institutions with service providers called GovMarket. The same progress is possible in the private sector. By accelerating cloud migration in a secure and organized way, business leaders can start to release resources to reinvest in other priorities.
